DIY Valentine's Day Decor - Make a Valentine Heart "I Love You" Picture

There are still 10 more more days left before Valentine's Day; have you been busy making some fun and festive decorations for your home?  If not, what are you waiting for? Here is a quick and inexpensive decoration you can make for your home or workplace, or even to give as a gift!

You will need:

picture frame
graphic to go in background (can print off from computer or use an old book page)
red buttons
heart template
hot glue gun

I saw this project at Mama's Crafty Place, but had my own ideas about how I wanted to make it.  Instead of a plaque, I really wanted it to be a picture.  I also wanted to change the background message to one about love, and I wanted it to be more dimensional   I found a graphic online that was exactly what I was looking for - simple, but with the message I wanted to convey:

I printed it out on plain, white paper.  Next, I checked my stash of old pictures and found a frame that would work.

Cute teapot, but a bit dated
I printed off my "I love you" graphic and grabbed two packs of red buttons.

I cut the printed page to fit the frame, then found a heart template online, posted it in a Word document, and adjusted it to the size I wanted the finished heart to be. I printed, cut it out, put it on the printed page, then placed the first layer of buttons on it to make double-sure it was the size I wanted it to be.  Perfect!  I traced the shape lightly with a pencil before removing the buttons and template.

The rest was even simpler: hot glue the buttons in the heart shape.  After putting the first layer of buttons on, I make it more dimentional by adding a second layer of smaller buttons to fill in some of the gaps. When finished, I could see a few of the pencil markings still showing, so I just erase them.  I popped it all into the frame and...violá!

Now - go make one to either enjoy yourself, give to a friend, or both!
